Rural Skills Program

In 2007, the South West LLEN, in partnership with the Wynbay Local Learning and Employment Network (Wynbay LLEN) and Connectus, facilitated a four week Rural Skills Program.  Nine youth from the Hopkins area of southwest Victoria and ten youth from the Wyndham and Hobsons Bay areas of metropolitan Melbourne participated in the Program held at Camp Cooriemungle located in the Corangamite Shire.

The aim of the Program was to develop participant’s interpersonal and social skills, confidence and motivation, as well as employability skills.  The Program was also designed to assist in re-connecting participants with school, further education, training or employment.  While the four week Program did focus on the agricultural industry, many of the skills developed are essential life skills, or are transferable and adaptable to other industry areas.
